Everything You Need to Know About This Years Christmas Lights Switch On in Whitworth

The Official Whitworth Christmas Lights Switch On is so popular and has attracted so much attention and enthusiasm from local residents in previous years that, as a result, the town council committee has decided to get their heads together and think of ways we can make the event more accommodating and even better than ever before.

This year the Christmas Lights  Switch on will be held at The Riverside at 6pm on Sunday 26th November. To kick off the events, we will be conducting a prize-giving event, which will take place at the outdoor stage. The public will then be invited inside for entertainment by the Whitworth Vale and Healey Youth Band and the Whitworth Community Choir. Finally, a certain man in red will arrive in his amazing grotto kindly supplied by local theatre company Proscenium. This year the grotto will be in a new location, on the stage inside the main hall and children will be invited to visit the grotto and receive their free Christmas gift, which we are able to give to the generous sponsorship of RRG Toyota Rochdale. We are hoping that these changes will make the event run more smoothly and make it more enjoyable for all that attend.

Because the stage is going to be outside we are going to have to stop people entering and leaving the carpark between 5.45pm and 6.45pm, if you are planning to arrive or leave between these times please walk to the event or park nearby on Market Street. You are welcome to use The Riverside carpark for the event as long as you arrive by 5.45pm and do not leave until after 6.45pm.

The Riverside will be serving a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie for a small charge, with kid’s refreshments also available. Father Christmas will be issuing sweets to the children, 2018 Whitworth calendars will be on sale and ducks will be available to sponsor for the New Year’s Day Duck Race.

The evening is expected to draw to a natural close at around 7.00pm. Entry to this event is free, and all are welcome.

For more details, contact Melanie Hearn, Town Clerk at Whitworth Town Council, on 01706 852018 / email: [email protected] or phone the Riverside direct on 01706 854130.
